What to Expect?
We allow 90 minutes for a new patient appointment and 45 minutes for follow-up appointments.
At a new patient appointment, time is spent reviewing your history, we’ll perform a brief physical exam and follow with an initial osteopathic treatment.
Except for very unusual circumstances, it’s not appropriate to treat someone more than once in a week. Generally, the first follow-up visit is at one week. Timing for further visits will vary, depending on your response to treatment.
You should wear clothing that is most comfortable for you. Work clothes are fine.
Gym clothes or sweatsuits aren’t necessary but are also perfectly acceptable. What’s important is that whatever you wear is most comfortable for you.
We practice a very gentle form of cranial osteopathic medicine and balanced tension techniques. The most important thing is that you are able to lie in a relaxed and comfortable position. There are no sudden movements or snapping of joints. The entire treatment should be relaxing and comfortable. If it’s not, please don’t wait to speak up.
Our goal is to bring the whole of a patient into a state of balance, so the inherent forces within the body can begin a therapeutic process. This process will go on generally for days or even weeks. That’s why a few days are needed for your body to integrate the structural changes before we can reevaluate your progress.
It is fine to do the things that you are used to doing in the days following a treatment. It is not recommended that you begin some new activity, especially a strenuous physical activity that you’re not used to, in the few days following a treatment. Doing something strenuous that you’re not used to doing can interfere with the process of a treatment.
